What is Search Console

Google Search Console is a free service offered by Google that helps you monitor and maintain your site’s presence in Google Search results. You don’t have to sign up for Search Console for your site to be included in Google’s search results, but doing so can help you understand how Google views your site and optimize its performance in search results.

Why use Search Console?

Webmaster Verification Method

Monitor your site’s performance in Google Search results:
• Make sure that Google can access your content
• Submit new content for crawling and remove content you don’t want shown in search results
• Create and monitor content that delivers visually engaging search results
• Maintain your site with minimal disruption to search performance
• Monitor and resolve malware or spam issues so your site stays clean
Discover how Google Search—and the world—sees your site:
• Which queries caused your site to appear in search results?
• Which sites are linking to your website?
Google lets you verify ownership of a website using one of three methods:
1. Meta tag.
2. Upload an HTML file.
3. DNS Verification.
This question has been answered multiple times before. Let me answer it again, with the bonus of showing you the cleanest way possible.

Google Webmaster Tool verification methods:

1. FTP an HTML file
The disadvantage of this method is that you will need an FTP client installed on your computer.
We WordPress bloggers don’t use FTP frequently. We may use an FTP client one time to install WordPress.
But we use the WordPress admin dashboard to do every uploading related task such as uploading a picture, or a theme, or a plugin.
2. Add a meta tag to header file
You can follow the steps shown by Don Campbell in this video and add a meta tag to the header.php file.
3. Use All In One SEO Pack plugin
• This the cleanest method to verify ownership.
Download and install the WordPress plugin —
Once you are done with the installation, all you have to do is:
1. Go to WordPress Admin -> Settings -> All In One SEO
2. Paste the meta code into the text area called “Additional Home Headers”.
3. Go to the “Verify Ownership” page in Google’s Webmaster Tool and click on the “Verify” button.
Step 1:

Go to Google Search Console (former Google Webmaster Tools), sign into your Google account and click the red button to add your website.

Step 2:
Once you’ve clicked the button to add your site, just type your website’s URL in the box. Click the blue button to continue.
Step 3:
Get the code. You will want to use the HTML tag under the Alternative Method. Only copy the code that is in the parenthesis after content, as per the image below.
Step 4:
Log in to your WordPress website. When you’re logged in, you will be in your ‘Dashboard’. On the left-hand side, you will see a menu. In that menu, click on ‘SEO’.
Step 5:
The ‘SEO’ settings will expand providing you additional options. Click on ‘Dashboard’.

Step 6:
Click on the ‘Webmaster Tools’ tab and add the code under ‘Google Search Console’. Click ‘Save Changes.
